FOUR men have been arrested on suspicion of rape.

Cordons were set up in the centre of Rochford, at around 10.30am on Sunday morning, and remained in place until approximately 5.30pm.

Witnesses state that several emergency service vehicle remained at the scene all day.

This came after police were called following concerns for the safety of a woman and two teenage girls in the town.

Police confirmed that the men, aged between 18 and 24, were still in custody yesterday and were awaiting questioning.

The ambulance service confirmed that one person was taken to hospital at around noon.

A spokesman for Essex Police, said: “We are currently investigating reports of sexual offences being committed at an address in Rochford.

"We were called at around 10.45am on Sunday, March 15, following concerns for the welfare of a woman and two teenage girls.

“After conducting initial enquiries, four men, aged between 18 and 24, have been arrested on suspicion of rape.

“A number of cordons were put up around Rochford on Sunday afternoon, and we thank residents for their patience and understanding during this time.

The force also urged anyone with information with to come forward.

The spokesman continued: “We are at an early stage of this investigation, and we would ask anyone who has not yet spoken to our officers, and who has information about this incident, or nearby dashcam and CCTV from the previous 24 hours to call 101 and quote incident 382 of 15 March.
