Shoppers have been bulk buying frozen items, vegetables, eggs, and health items, from the shelves at Sainsburys at Rayleigh Weir.

Empty - shoppers have been clearing the shelves

A church in Rayleigh has urged shoppers not to panic buy because of coronavirus. A pastor issued a statement on social media. He said: "I have run into a couple in need of baby milk, their newborn baby has no milk because people have been bulk buying in the supermarkets.

"Everybody in our community please I urge you to please stop the bulk buying. Take what you need but please stop bulk buying.

"Newborn babies are going to die if they don't have milk and that saddens me deeply.

"In running the foodbank, I am finding it hard to get poorer people that are not well off enough food because people are bulk buying.

"Please I urge you to stop bulk buying. As a community come together help one another.

"Only buy what you need and leave enough for each other. It's going to be okay.

"Supermarkets will not shut, and the government isn't going to stop you from going to the supermarket.

"This virus will be dealt with and it will work out.

"Please stop bulk buying your going to kill newborn babies, people on hard times and the elderly living off smaller pensions.

"Leave enough for each other I know and have confidence in the human race that we as a community can all do this."
