Two people were rushed to hospital after medics in protective suits were called to an incident.
It happened in Ascot Grove in Basildon at around 5.15pm last night and images showed an ambulance and emergency response car in the road.
At least two members of ambulance staff were seen wearing protective clothing.
A spokesman for the ambulance service said: "We were called by 111 at 3.36pm yesterday with reports that a child and an adult were feeling unwell in Ascot Grove, Barstable.
"We sent an ambulance and an ambulance officer.
"Two people were taken to Basildon Hospital for further care."
