FAMOUS heroes stormed a Basildon school as a special treat for students who had excelled in their SATs.

Laindon Park Primary School was recognised as being in the top four per cent of primary schools across the UK for their marks, and were rewarded by a visit from some very special guests.

Characters including Iron Man and famous faces from Star Wars took to the school, which is based on Church Hill, Basildon, to surprise the children for achieving results which were 22 per cent above the national average.

The pupils and staff were delighted when Chewbacca and Stormtroopers from the Star Wars saga walked through the door, touring the school and inspecting the student’s hard work that helped them gain such acclaim.

Pupils were over the moon that Iron Man Tony Stark had flown by, having recently teamed up with metal work students at James Hornsby School to create miniature iron men.

Dr Margaret Wilson CBE, CEO of the Zenith Multi Academy Trust, said: “To see the faces of the little children light up in surprise and excitement was absolutely fantastic. These pupils have been working exceptionally hard and totally deserve a visit from their heroes, as they themselves have been heroic in what they have achieved.”

Headteacher Cristina Portoles added: “It was hard keeping such a secret but absolutely worth it.”
