A ROBBER wearing a zombie mask stormed into a shop demanding cash.

Police have launched an appeal for information after the thug targeted a store in Vange Riverview Centre last week.

The robbery took place early in the morning, at about 7.25am, on Monday, December 2.

The man, wearing a zombie mask and dressed in a hooded puffer-type coat, shorts and an orange high-vis vest entered Martins and threatened people in there with a knife he produced from his bag.

The robber demanded money and cigarettes from the terrified shoppers, taking items and then fleeing the store.

He was spotted walking in the direction of Whytewaters in Basildon.

The man has been described as in his 20s, around 5ft 6in to 5ft 8in tall, of a stocky build, with dark coloured knee length shorts and a blue hoodie.

A spokesman for Essex Police said: “We are appealing for information following a robbery at Vange Riverview Centre, Basildon on Monday December 2.

“Did you see a man of this description in the area, or anyone wearing or carrying a zombie mask? We really want to hear from you.”

Sharon Taylor wrote on social media: “So sad that this is common place now, those people in that store must have been absolutely terrified.

“Really hope this monster is caught.”

Miguel Brodrick said: “It’s just cowardice hiding your face then thrusting a knife at people just for some smokes and a bit of cash.

“Not sure what he was gaining by doing it.”

Anyone with information on the incident, or those with CCTV of the area is asked to call Basildon CID on 101 quoting crime reference number 42/190518/19.
