THIS weekend will see thousands of south Essex residents turn out to support Remembrance Sunday parades and events that will be held across the area.

Southend

Everyone is invited to attend Southend Cenotaph, on Clifftown Parade for the Remembrance Day service.

At 11am, the Remembrance Day Service will begin with the playing of the Last Post and the exhortation – delivered by Keith Fletcher, chairman of the Leigh branch of the Royal British Legion. This ends with the words ‘We will remember them’ which everyone will be invided to repeat.

This will begin the traditional two minutes’ silence.

The end of the silence will be signalled by the Reveille followed by the Kohima epitaph, the service will continue with the hymn: ‘I vow to thee my country.’

Leigh

A service of remembrance takes place in St Clements Church, on Leigh Hill, at 3pm

Following the service, at around 4pm a parade of Serving Veteran Cadets Blue Light services and youth organisations will march from the church to the community centre

Shoebury

A service will be held at 11am on Sunday at the War memorial on Camper Road. The service will begin by playing the Last Post and the exhortation.

Eastwood

A remembrance service will take place at Eastwood Memorial Hall, on Rayleigh Road, from 2pm.

Billericay

In Billericay a special Festival of Remembrance concert event will take place on Saturday at 7.30pm at Emmanuel Church, on Laindon Road.

Now in its 5th year, Billericay’s Festival of Remembrance pays tribute to the armed forces and remembers all victims of conflict.

On Sunday, an Act of Remembrance, including parade and prayers, will take place at the Billericay High Street War Memorial starting at 10.40am.

Canvey

A remembrance service will take place at The Paddocks on Long Road, at 10.30am. Following the service there will be a procession to the war memorial to lay wreaths.

South Benfleet

A service will be held at St Mary’s Church at 9.45am. Wreaths will then be laid at 11am at the war memorial.

Hadleigh

In Hadleigh, the Royal British Legion have organised for a parade where civic representatives will lay wreaths at the Hadleigh war memorial.

This will follow a service at St James the Less Church at 9.45am.

On Monday, a two-minutes silence and parade will be held in Hadleigh, with guests asked to arrive at 10.30am outside Morrisons on London Road.

Basildon

A service will be held at 10.15am at St Martin’s Church, in St Martin’s Square.

Rayleigh

The parade through the Town Centre will start in Websters Way Car Park at 9.40am.

The salute will be taken at the High Street/Bellingham Lane junction, before the parade reaches Holy Trinity Church, for the church service.

Wreaths will be laid at the Rayleigh British Legion Memorial Hall War Memorial.
