SOL Campbell is close to being appointed Southend United manager, Echosport understands.
Blues’ caretaker boss Gary Waddock is expected to lead the team into tonight’s League One clash with Doncaster Rovers at Roots Hall.
But ex-England international Campbell is expected to be in attendance alongside Herman Hreidarsson, who will be named assistant manager.
Andy Cole, who is in line to be named striking coach, will also be at Roots Hall watching and the impending appointment seems to have pleased the majority of Blues’ fans.
For an Echosport poll, which attracted 2,012 votes, saw 79 per cent of supporters say they would be happy with Campbell’s arrival.
