A FIRE broke out in a townhouse in Basildon.
Essex Fire Service were called to a fire in a townhouse after neighbours smelled smoke in Rokells at 3am this morning.
On arrival, firefighters reported that the fire was in a room on the first floor of the property and worked to surround it and stop it spreading.
Firefighters extinguished the fire by 4.05am.
The room has suffered from some smoke and fire damage.
An investigation into the cause of the fire will take place later today.
