A teenager has been seriously injured after being stabbed during a fight.

Witnesses reported two men were seen fighting in Love Lane at around 3.50pm yesterday.

Police rushed to the scene and found an 18-year-old man who had sustained stab wounds to his arm and he was taken to hospital for treatment.

Police say his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening but are potentially life-changing.

Officers are appealing for anyone who saw what happened, has CCTV or dash cam footage, or any other information to come forward.

In particular they want to identify a man who may have been involved in the incident who has been described as being white, in his late teens, slim, and wearing dark clothing.

The stabbing has caused concern in the community.

Janet Allen, 53, who lives nearby, said: "I saw all the police cars and ambulances - I think even the air ambulance landed nearby.

"The road was closed off for a while and there was a lot of officers there so I assumed it was something serious.

"It feels like there's a stabbing every few weeks now. We need better security in the town now. What more has to happen for us to actually get CCTV?"

The incident comes weeks after the Echo reported residents frustration as they felt calls for CCTV were going unanswered.

Anyone with any information is asked to call police on 101 quoting incident 857 of 13 September or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
