TRAVELLERS set up camp at a superstore's car park.
The travellers arrived at the car park of the Tesco Extra store on Prince Avenue in Southend earlier this week, and were reported to the police last night.
Reports suggest there are at least six caravans on the site.
Tesco have confirmed the travellers arrived at the site a few days ago, and that the group has now been moved off the site.
Online reports state that the group has now settled at the car park in Cherry Orchard Park.
An Essex Police spokesman said: "We were called to reports of an unauthorised encampment outside Tesco in Prince Avenue, Southend, at 9.30pm on July 31.
"Officers attended the scene and we continue to monitor the situation."
A Southend Council spokesperson said: "We have been made aware of reports of an encampment at land beside Tesco on the A127.
"Although this is private land, we have put our parks and car parking teams on alert in case they move on."
Tesco confirmed the travellers had no impact on any customers or trade.
