A TEENAGE boy has been taken to hospital after a crash in Basildon.

The crash took place on Whitmore Way in the town at around 12.15pm this afternoon.

Residents reported that police had cordoned off the road and ambulances were on scene, and that the crash involved a cyclist and car.

A spokesman for the ambulance service said: "We were called at 12.15pm with reports of a collision in Whitmore Way, Basildon.

"We sent one ambulance and took a teenage boy, 14, to Basildon and Thurrock Hospital for further treatment."

The road has now reopened and the car involved, which is shown to have a dented windscreen, has been taken away.

A spokesman for Essex Police said: "We were called at 12.20pm on Thursday, June 13 with reports of a collision involving a cyclist and a Ford Fiesta in Whitmore Way, Basildon.

"The cyclist, a teenage boy, was taken to hospital and the road was closed while emergency services were on scene."
