A DAY dedicated to doing a good turn within the Thurrock community is fast approaching – and “pledges” are coming thick and fast.

Giving for Thurrock Day 2019 encourages residents to give to a local cause, either with their time or money.

Organisers are asking everyone – from individuals and schools to local businesses – to give something back to the neighbourhood on Friday, March 29.

Fundraisers will be raising vital cash for borough charity, Giving for Thurrock.

Here’s a full list of pledges made so far. 

l Construction company HW Wilson will be collecting for the cause and staff from the firm will volunteer on the day.

l IKEA Thurrock will be holding fundraising activities for both staff and the public. IKEA will be having its Giving for Thurrock Day on Saturday March 30, to coincide with increased visitors.

l C2C will have volunteers at all seven stations in the borough so people can donate on their way to and from work

l South Essex College in Grays, will be holding a raffle and handing out free tea and coffee vouchers in Grays High Street

l Palmers Solicitors will be holding a raffle and offering advice and information to residents about their services.

l Intu Lakeside staff are donating £1 for every member of staff and they will be promoting the Donate by Text service to the retailers based within the centre.

l South Ockendon Centre will be holding a coffee and cake morning starting at 11am on the day, to raise money.

l Thurrock CVS will be holding a Superhero Tea Party, where visitors can enjoy tea and cake, a raffle to raise funds, as well as learning information about local services. Doors for the tea party will open from 2pm. All are welcome.

Dad Darren Garwood, author of Jackson Superhero books from Tilbury will be at the tea party, along with Carl Osborne, illustrator of the books. Carl will be showing people how to draw a superhero.

Thurrock CCG will be supporting residents in the borough on Giving for Thurrock Day. They will be asking all staff to donate to the Thurrock Foodbank as well as encouraging everyone to take part in their local communities. Thanks CCG – Superheroes! 

Big Blue Squirrel Storage have put their capes on for Giving for Thurrock Day. The self storage company offers great value and flexible storage solutions 7 days a week for business and personal use. They also donate cakes for Giving for Thurrock helping to make the Superhero Tea Party a great success. 

Thurrock Muslim Parents Association will be making small gestures of gratitude to people in the community who play vital roles. Notes of gratitude and small gifts will be given out on the day to community workers including teachers, fire fighters, bus drivers and school crossing patrol officers. 

Robin Personnel, a local homecare company specialising in the supply of temporary and permanent nursing, care and support staff will be joining the Giving for Thurrock family on 29 March 2019. They will be holding a Tea / Coffee morning raising funds for vulnerable adults and children in Thurrock. Thank you Robin Personnel for being Superheroes. 

Elaine at Lainey the Life Genie is offer a free Zumba class on 25 and 27 March for Giving for Thurrock Day. Zumba offers not only a great and fun way to keep fit but also is a fabulous work out for your mental well being.
