A woman in her 80s has serious head and leg injuries after being hit by a car in London Road, Hadleigh.
Emergency services rushed to the crash at about 1pm today.
Witnesses reported one person laying in the road, the air ambulance and four police cars at the scene.
One witness said: "A pedestrian has been hit on the crossing."
An Essex Police spokesman said: "We were called to a collision involving a car and a pedestrian in London Road, Hadleigh at around 1pm today.
"The pedestrian, a woman in her 80s, has been taken to hospital with potentially serious head and leg injuries."
A spokesman for the ambulance service said: "We were called at 12.59pm with reports of a crash in London Road, Hadleigh.
"We sent two ambulances, an ambulance officer and the Essex and Herts Air Ambulance."
