Police are still searching for a gunman after a firearm was fired in a residential road.

Armed police rushed to Burdock Drive, Laindon, just after 3.30pm yesterday.

It is understood that a driver of a BMW was seen in a possession of a firearm.

The man was reported to have left the scene in a Mercedes after reportedly firing the gun.

Nobody has been injured.

Officers have been in the area since yesterday afternoon and have been speaking to the community and conducting house to house enquiries.

No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.

Officers remain in the area.

Detective Chief Inspector Paul Lopez said:“We are in the process of establishing the circumstances of how a Renault and BMW came to be in collision in Burdock Drive yesterday.

“The driver of the Renault has been spoken to by officers and is unharmed.

“Our team of detectives are working hard to locate the man who was reported to have been seen in possession of the firearm.

“The Mercedes has been located and forensically recovered.

“Anyone with information about this incident who has not yet spoken to an officer is asked to contact us on 101.

“We understand reports of this nature are very concerning and we also encourage anyone with concerns to contact us.

“The community will be kept up to date with the investigation as soon as we have further information to share.”
