MORE doctors are set to be trained in Essex to help deal with a shortfall in GPs.

The first school of medicine in Essex has opened at Anglia Ruskin’s Chelmsford campus.

The £20million facility has been completed after three years of planning.

Dr Ruth Jackson, pro vice chancellor for the School of Medicine development at Anglia Ruskin University, said: “The new School of Medicine is really good news for Essex.

“It is the start of a long road, but we know that doctors who study in an area are likely to come back to that area when they complete their postgraduate training.

“Many of them are local to Essex and the East of England, and we are proud to be able to provide them with the kind of state-of-the-art facilities that will allow them to work in this field.”
