A man is on the roof of a Wickford shopping centre.
Witnesses have described that there are police cars and fire engines on the scene as they attempt to talk him down.
He is currently on the roof of Peacocks, but has previously been on the higher section of the roof.
The man has now been brought down.
A spokesman for Essex Police said: "Police attempted to arrest a man on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle in High Street, Wickford, at 11.40am (Friday, February 9).
"The 26-year-old man from Basildon then climbed onto the roof of a building and we closed a section of the road for the safety of the man and the public.
"The man came off the roof on his own accord at 12.50pm. He was arrested and he remains in custody for questioning."
