A MP is continuing to fight for victims of crime after figures showed Britain’s worst offender has more than 500 convictions.

MP Priti Patel, whose constituency includes the fringes of the Maldon district, obtained the figures from the Ministry of Justice which showed the country’s worst 10 repeat offenders have a total of 3,547 convictions.

But Bradley Wernham, who was dubbed Britain’s most prolific burglar after being caught in Witham, is unlikely to be in the list as 645 of his offences were taken into account rather than being separately prosecuted.

Ms Patel said: “Prolific offenders should be kept locked up and behind bars to keep the public safe.”

The figures for 2007 to 2010 also showed more than more than 3,500 criminals have between 50 and 99 convictions and 257 have 100 or more.
