Braintree Council spent more than £20,000 trying to evict travellers from a site in one of Essex’s richest villages.
The cost was raised by Witham MP Priti Patel in a 90 minute parliamentary debate last Wednesday where she called for changes and balance within the planning process.
She led the debate with the planning inspectorate overturning Braintree Council’s enforcement notice against a family of travellers who had moved on to a plot next to the Compasses pub in Pattiswick.
The case went to high court and siblings Michaela and Nathan Lee successfully appealed to the Planning Inspectorate against the council’s decision in May.
