THE fire service has announced new on-call firefighter recruits are set to come to fire stations across mid-Essex.

Seven new on-call firefighters have completed their initial training.

The squad started their six-week basic training course in March, covering core skills that firefighters use in their roles such as using and lifting ladders, pumping water and rescuing casualties at road crashes.

Now the firefighters, who will respond to incidents when paged while going about their daily business, will continue their training at their on-call fire stations.

The service confirmed they will join stations at Dunmow, Halstead, Leaden Roding, Ongar, Saffron Walden and Waltham Abbey.

It now has more than 500 on-call firefighters and most fire stations are currently recruiting.
