A CAKE-MAKING mother and daughter duo have been putting their skills to the test to raise money for charity.

Emma Wallis, of Maldon bakery Lottie and Jake’s Scrumptious Cakes, is hosting an Easter workshop on Tuesday, March 30 from 2pm.

The fundraising event is part of Farleigh Hospice’s spring crafts.

The tutorial will teach budding bakers how to make cute chicks and colourful Easter eggs out of fondant icing which can then be put on cakes or cupcakes.

Emma will even share the secrets to her special buttercream recipe.

Alongside the special class, Emma’s 12-year-old daughter Charlotte – the Lottie in Lottie & Jake’s – has been doing her own fundraising.

She has been selling homemade treat boxes, raising more than £80 for the hospice.

Mum Emma said: “As a local business and as a family, it is important for us to give back to our community.

“Charlotte was keen to keep busy when this lockdown first began and came up with the idea of creating her treat boxes as an additional way to raise money.

“I’m incredibly proud of her. Not only is she a great baker, but she’s also always looking for ways to help others which is an admirable quality, although she’s not so keen on the washing-up!”

“Charlotte has plans to raise even more money for Farleigh by hosting a bake sale in our garden when the pandemic restrictions are lifted.”

Hospice fundraising manager Debbie de Boltz added: “If you’ve tasted her buttercream, you’ll know that the registration fee is worth a copy of the recipe alone - the tutorial is a bonus!

“As regular supporters, we really appreciate both Emma and her daughter Charlotte’s continued fundraising efforts.”

The event costs £10 per household.
