A KIND-HEARTED reverend is getting used to her new look after shaving off her long locks for charity.

Reverend Jo Parrott works at the St Andrew’s Church, in Halstead, and took to their Facebook page last weekend to shave her head live.

Residents tuned in to see Jo brave the shave in an effort to raise funds for two charities.

The first was the Braintree Area Foodbank, which has a branch based at the St Andrews’s Church.

Jo praised the great work the foodbank does collecting food donations to keep the most vulnerable fed.

The other was SinglePoint, which is a part of the St Helena Hospice.

The Rev Jo’s initial target was to raise just £500 to split between each charity.

However, her expectations were exceeded with donations to her page smashing the target before the head shave even took place.

By Friday, the day before the shave, Jo had raised a whopping £1,850 with that being bumped up to £2,262 after gift aid.

On Saturday, Jo went live on Facebook with the head shave.

The stream is still available to watch on the St Andrew’s Church Facebook page and on the Halstead Gazette website.

During the stream, residents can see Jo’s blonde locks hit the floor as she braves the shave.

Now, after the event, her fundraising has continued to rake in donations.

Jo has raised more than five times her target with current donations at £3,367 with gift aid.

She said: “Thank you so much to everyone who supported and donated on Saturday.

“Money is still coming in and so far you have raised, with gift aid, £3,367.38. The target was £500. I am totally overwhelmed by everyone’s generosity.

“It was strange seeing it all happen as we recorded and trying to get the messages of these wonderful charities across - turns out shaving your hair off doesn’t take that long.

“I had the privilege of choice in shaving my head to bring attention to the work of these charities.

“The people they serve do not have a choice. They are the brave ones.”
