POLICE investigating a serious assault arrested two men before uncovering a stash of drugs.

The team executed an early morning warrant at an address in Culver Street West, Colchester on Tuesday following an assault in Walsingham Way, Colchester, last month where a man was hospitalised.

Several police officers used an enforcer to smash through the door as they entered the home and conducted a search.

A mixture of class A and class B substances were discovered by the officers.

Two men - a 21-year-old from Colchester and 29-year-old from East Ham - were arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent, possession with intent to supply drugs and possession of drugs.

They have since been bailed.

A spokesman for Colchester Police said a haul of drugs was found packaged up and appeared to be ready to sell on the streets.

He said: “As part of an investigation into a serious assault, officers and PCSOs from Colchester’s Community Policing Team executed a warrant at an address in Colchester.

“Once inside, officers arrested two men on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

“Unfortunately for them, whilst officers were conducting a search for items relating to the violent assault, they discovered a stash of class A and class B drugs which appeared to be ready for sale.

“We have kindly taken this off their hands and they will not be able to profit from selling these drugs.

“The two men were further arrested for drug offences and both remain in police custody.

“Essex Police will not tolerate incidents of serious violence in our communities and we will dedicate time and effort to identifying and locating those responsible.”

Anyone with concerns about drug dealing should call 101.
