A COLCHESTER computer whizz has put lockdown to good use by developing his own multiplayer survival role playing game.

Mitchell Gledhill, 21, has created Chaotic Survival, which is now available via the App Store and Google Play.

Players in the game must successfully manage their hunger, thirst and health as well as build bases and join tribes with the aim of surviving in the wilderness.

Mitchell, who lives in Greenstead, hopes to use the game to spread the message about staying safe from coronavirus.

He said: "It is called Chaotic Survival and because of coronavirus I incorporated a deadly virus into the game.

"Since face masks became mandatory in the UK and everywhere else I incorporated a face mask onto my logo to press the importance of wearing masks.

"It has been spreading awareness to the gaming community who don't read or watch the news to help them understand the damaging outcomes of not following Governments rules.

"Being autistic myself I feel it stretches to people with learning disabilities because I am a practical learner.

"Rather than listening I felt this was an even greater way of spreading even more awareness."

Mitchell, who works as a carer, has only been developing apps since January and says he didn't expect to create his very own game quite so soon.

But having a bit of extra spare time during lockdown gave him the opportunity to turn his idea into a reality and so far the response has been overwhelmingly positive.

Braintree and Witham Times:

He said: "I’ve had people review Chaotic Survival as under-rated and highly recommended. I’ve got good and positive reviews on the apps so far.

"I want to spread more awareness to the gaming community and people with learning difficulties and help them through this difficult time.

"I keep players informed via email to obviously stay inside and protect their healthcare systems due to Covid and seems to have worked with many players actively playing and staying at home."
