RACING motorists crashed into each other and a horsebox on the A120 before speeding off.

Kim Bedford-Straw, 30, was driving a horsebox on the A120 heading towards Colchester having ridden her horse Merlyn on the seafront in Frinton.

But as she and pal Jade Youins-Martin, 24, were travelling along the road shortly after 9pm on Monday, two silver cars went to overtake them.

The two cars crashed and then went careering into the horsebox.

Fortunately, the two women were unhurt.

Braintree and Witham Times:

Merlyn and Jade’s loan horse Cloud were also uninjured but startled.

Kim pulled into a layby for initial checks on the horses and then into the Texaco service station to call the police.

But they were then stunned to see the silver cars speed off as they were on the phone.

Kim, who lives in Colchester, said she believed the men were racing.

“We were coming back from the beach, when one silver car crashed into another silver car, causing it to spin out of control and smash into the side of the horsebox,” she said.

“It seemed as though the drivers knew each other and were racing each other up the road.

“They went to overtake us, but in doing so clipped each other and smashed into the side of us.

“We are lucky the horses, although stressed, were not injured and we managed to pull into the Texaco after initially pulling into the nearest layby.

“The silver cars remained on the A120 while we were checking the horses in the layby, but whilst on the phone to the police, the two cars sped past us and kept driving.

“I am appealing for anyone who was on the road that night who may have dash cam footage or saw the cars with damage to the front ends to get in touch with the police.

“It is possible they will have some red paint from the horsebox on them.”

She added: “It is so sad because we were coming back from a lovely ride in Frinton.

“It was like they were racing on the roads and we were just in the way.”
