A HORSE had to be rescued by firefighters after it fell into a ditch.

Crews from Colchester, Chelmsford and Great Baddow were all called to help the animal, who is called Murphy.

He had been fallen into a ditch in Feering on the Tuesday morning (June 9) and was unable to get himself out.

With great care, firefighters were able to get Murphy back on his feet.

He was then able to spend the rest of the day grazing happily.

His owner Katie has thanked firefighters for their support.

She said: "I just wanted to say a massive thank you.

"They were so quick and gentle with him. They were amazing.

"Thank you so much to the crews, Murphy is now grazing happily.”

Essex Fire Service announced details of the operation to show its crews are needed for a whole rang of different incidents.
