Hundreds of people took to the streets to pay their respects to a much-loved pub landlord.

Members of the community gathered outside the Swiss Bell pub in Braintree yesterday afternoon ahead of Scott Gilhooly's funeral.

Mr Gilhooly's cover version of Only You was played out loud as the hearse and procession went passed the pub.

The song has been released as following Mr Gilhooly's death and stood at number one in both the iTunes and Amazon Music charts yesterday.

Aidan Kelly, who was among the crowd, said: "It was an amazing turnout.

"They played the song as the procession went past and then everyone clapped after it had finished.

"It was emotional and a great tribute to Scott."

All proceeds raised from the charity will go to the homeless charity, Hope House, in Braintree.

Friends hope it will help Mr Gilhooly's legacy live on and say they have been overwhelmed by the support of the public.

Following Mr Gilhooly's death in May, his family said he had a "heart of gold" in a touching tribute to the 44-year-old.

They said in a statement: "Scott was many things to so many people, he was a much-loved father, son, brother, uncle and brother in law.
