FLORAL tributes have been laid outside a pub following the death of its landlord.

Scott Gilhooly, 44, was found dead at the Swiss Bell in Mountbatten Road, Braintree, on Sunday morning.

Police say a post-mortem examination found Mr Gilhooly died of stab wounds to his chest and neck.

Lawrence Bourke, 23, has been charged with murder following the incident and appeared at Chelmsford Magistrates Court yesterday.

Bourke, of Lister Road, Braintree, is now set to appear at Chelmsford Crown Court this afternoon via video link.

Dozens of floral tributes and messages have been laid outside the pub, with the community coming together to pay its respects.

Mr Gilhooly has been described as “happy and generous” by those leaving messages.

A heavy police presence remained in place at the pub yesterday and a cordon also remains in place.

The investigation into Mr Gilhooly’s death is continuing and police want any witnesses to come forward.

A spokesman added: "We are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding Mr Gilhooly’s death and anyone who has information that could assist with our enquiries is asked to call the North Major Crime Team on 101.

"Officers have also been carrying out patrols in the area and anyone with information is also urged to speak to them."
