AN engineer with the astonishing ability to transform dirty vans into masterpieces has dedicated his latest mural to the nation’s NHS workers.

After a six month break from creating murals on the back of muddy vehicles, James Gibson decided now was the time to design a tribute to thank the medical staff working in unprecedented conditions as the coronavirus pandemic continues.

James, of Barrack Lane, Harwich, spent about two hours creating his latest piece of art of an nurse wearing a protective mask, with the words Angels Without Faces written underneath.

The gas and heating engineer said he was inspired to create this piece on the back of his work van as a way of thanking his sister Tina Pandolfi for her dedicated work as a nurse.

Braintree and Witham Times:

He said he wanted to thank Tina, her colleagues and the rest of the NHS staff around the country.

James said: “The reason I wanted to do this is because my sister is a district nurse who also helps out at A&E at Colchester Hospital but she is struggling with the stress and emotional side of the outbreak.

“It’s heartbreaking really.

“She would do anything for anyone and always puts herself second.”

Tina has been a nurse for about ten years, so James and his family thought the mural would be a nice tribute to boost her morale.

“She loved it,” he added.

“This is the first one I have done in about six months.

“I had not intended on doing another one, but my sister was struggling and I wanted to make her smile.”

James has created about 20 pieces of artwork on muddy vans since he discovered his talent in 2017.

Over the past few years James has been praised for his artwork by an array of celebrities and social media users.

Some of his most recognisable work includes portraits of world heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua, English boxing champion David Haye and grime and hip-hop artist Stormzy.

The Remembrance Day mural was shared on Facebook more than 70,000 times.

James’ work can be seen on the Facebook page JG van art, or on his Twitter account @van_ksy.
