A CHARITY football match has raised more than £1,000 for children suffering from liver disease.

Halstead bricklayer Bradley Amos, 25, organised the game for the Children’s Liver Disease Foundation.

The charity is close to Bradley’s heart because stepson Ralph was born with rare liver disease biliary atresia.

The condition was so serious that Ralph needed a transplant as a newborn baby seven years ago, followed by more surgery just weeks later.

Bradley is now looking to give something back after his stepson’s “gift of life”.

The keen footballer was already planning to run the London Marathon this year and decided to organise the community football match and barbecue to raise more cash.

A team from the Children’s Liver Disease Foundation took on Halstead Vets at Halstead Town FC’s Rosemary Lane ground.

The game ended 5-2 in the visitors’ favour and was followed by a community barbecue, with food donated by Halstead businesses.

Bradley said: “I would just like to thank everyone for coming to show their support for a wonderful charity – the Children’s Liver Disease Foundation – and we had an unbelievable turn-out.

“I would also like to thank Hards of Halstead butchers for being the main sponsor and sorting out the barbecue meat and also Hume’s bakery for the kind donation of rolls.

“I also want to give everyone at Halstead Town Football Club a big thank you for letting us use their fantastic facilities and making it possible, and all the volunteers who helped.”
