Cyclists of all abilities will be able to enjoy three new routes through the countryside at this year’s Ride for Helen charity cycle.

This year cyclists will set off from Crix, near Hatfield Peverel, to take part in one of six routes to raise money for the Helen Rollason Cancer Charity.

Distances of six miles, 15 miles, 30 miles are on offer as well as new routes of 50 miles, 65 miles and 90 miles, all starting and finishing in Hatfield Peverel.

All ages and abilities are welcome to join in as individuals or as a team.

The three shorter distances go through Hatfield Peverel countryside and surrounding areas.

The new 50 mile route goes up through Felstead and back through Black Notley.

The next new challenging route for experienced cyclists of 65 miles goes as far as Steeple Bumpstead and back through Finchingfield.

The 90-mile route takes cyclists as far as Great Yeldham.

All adult registrations for the 90 mile route will qualify for two free child places for the six-mile route.

Charity spokesman Suzanne Watson, said: “We are all really looking forward to this year’s Ride for Helen as it’s always such an exciting and popular event, which attracts a variety of participants.

“We have worked really hard to map out the best and safest routes through the beautiful Essex countryside and to ensure that all of our riders have a fantastic experience.”

She added: “We couldn’t organise such an amazing and successful event without the help of our dedicated team of volunteers, staff, sponsors and supporters.

“Last year, almost 1,000 cyclists took part in Ride for Helen, raising over £28,000 for the charity.

“If everyone on the day donated an extra £2 in our collection tins, this would raise an extra £2,000 which would go towards the running of our support centre, helping enable quality of life while living with cancer.”
