The A120 has now reopened following a serious crash.
The eastbound carriageway between Takeley and Dunmow was shut to all traffic after two cars were involved in a collision around 12.30pm.
The Essex Roads Policing Unit confirmed it was at the scene and officers said there was a large oil spill which had to be cleared before the road could reopen.

Traffic on both sides of the road was understood to be affected and long queues formed back to Stansted Airport.
The road was eventually opened by 3pm and traffic has begun to ease.
