Trying out Veganuary this year?

Those participating will be able to enjoy a range of vegan dishes at Colchester's market.

Stall holders which provide vegan produce include Compleat Caterers, Chickpea Catering, Polka Dot Cake Co and Vool Vegan Cool.

For those who are looking to spice up their Veganuary, the market is holding their first vegan-friendly annual Colchester Chilli Challenge on today in Lion Walk.

Starting at 11am, the market welcomes any brave soul over the age of 18 to take on the series of hot dishes which are freshly prepared by assorted traders from Colchester Market.

The fiery eating challenge cost £10 per person and competitors can register on the day.

Each competitor will receive an exclusive Colchester Chilli Challenge T-Shirt made by @cultzeros.

On top if this the winner will receive a star-prize of a chilli hamper.

Veganuary is an international campaign that started in 2014 with the aim to promote the vegan lifestyle.

It set out to create a movement that would appeal to non-vegans throughout the world and has successfully inspired over half a million people in 178 countries to try veganism for the whole month of January.

Councillor Martin Goss said: “Our market offers a great variety of food and produce, including an increasing number of stall holders providing vegan products, which will be of particular interest to those taking part in Veganuary.

“Throughout the year, we put on a variety of events to enhance the market, such as the Chilli Challenge and I hope to see lots of people heading to this popular annual event either to take part or watch all the fun.”
