CAMPAIGNERS are joining in with a county-wide day of action in a bid to save libraries and library staff from the axe.
The Manningtree Save Our Library campaigners are holding an action day event at the Methodist Church, in South Street, tomorrow from 10am-2pm.
Poet and author Kate Worsley will be present at the event with the Youth Sea Shanty Crew.
The day of action comes as campaigners slammed County Hall after learning library staff have lost their perks. Staff were previously exempt from fines for overdue items and charges on CDs and DVDs.
A County Hall spokesman said: “Library customers are expected to pay a charge when the items they have borrowed are not returned to their library by the due date.
“It would, therefore, not be fair for any of staff to benefit from a concession relating to these charges.”
