A SCHOOL and residents will benefit from a life-saving piece of equipment thanks to First Responders.

Hamilton Primary School in Colchester had a defibrillator fitted to its fence in Constantine Road.

Headteacher Nick Hutchings said: “This will allow the community to be able to access critical medical equipment in the event of an emergency.

“The First Responder team within Colchester provided the unit and Jennings and Stollery Ltd electricians, based in Wivenhoe, kindly donated the fitting of the unit to the school.

“To access the defibrillator members of the public need to call 999, in an emergency, and quote the location and postcode of the defibrillator, which can be found on the unit.”

A defibrillator can give a high energy electric shock to the heart of someone who is in cardiac arrest. It plays an essential part in trying to save someone’s life.

Colchester First Responders have fitted more than 50 defibrillators across the town.
