RESIDENTS on the housing waiting list have moved into their new homes.

A new housing estate on land off Burnham Road, Latchingdon, has welcomed 20 people into 13 new affordable homes.

An opening ceremony took place with representatives from Maldon District Council, Colne Housing and construction company EJ Taylor.

New neighbour Akin Yildiz, 50, who lives in one of the apartments, said: “I’m really happy staying here. It’s a nice road in a good area, with lovely people around me.”

Maldon District Council chairman Bob Boyce added: “Everyone has a right to housing which ensures access to a safe, secure, habitable, and affordable home.

“These much-needed homes will provide that basic human right and help meet a gap in affordable housing provision for Latchingdon and the Maldon district.

“I hope all of the new residents enjoy their new homes and I wish them all the best for the future.”

The new homes, on land formerly owned by Goodhares Farm, are occupied by residents with a local links to the district.
