AN award-winning giant vegetable grower has created the UK’s biggest fruit and veg stall.
Maldon’s Ben White was the cream of the crop at RHS Garden Hyde Hall Taste of Autumn show in Chelmsford at the weekend.
Up against some of the top growers from across the country, Ben’s pumpkin-growing pedigree was on full display with an amazing 423lb whopper.
He then came together with other champion growers to create what was dubbed the ‘UK’s biggest fruit and veg stall’ in a publicity stunt with Vauxhall vans.
Ben said: “The giant veg stall celebrates the hard work of giant veg growers and other small businesses around the UK.”
“Transportation is key in the giant veg-growing community.
“After growing these beauties for almost a year, you need to be able to get them from A to B safely and securely.”
Ben continues to build a name for himself within Giant Veg growing circles and is now considered one of its most exciting, rising stars.
The gargantuan groceries on the stall were grown by some of the top giant veg experts and are being transported around the UK in a bid to highlight the ingenuity of small British businesses.
The stall itself showcases awe-inspiring fruit and vegetables from around the UK, including 4ft tall celery, mammoth 3ft pumpkins and the heaviest beetroots in the world, weighing in at more than 45lbs.
