Regarding the two-page article about rubbish and flytipping in our area, I believe the statements made by John Brown are incorrect.
He states that the problem in Clayton Road with black bags left behind is part of the problem by the introduction of the wheelie bins.
He said there was food waste left behind in torn black bags.
That is the fault of the residents as they should have a food waste bin, collected every week.
Metal, toys and furniture were never collected with the black sacks either.
Councillor Geoff Smith further states the new bins have caused more flytipping.
The places he mentions have, for years to my knowledge been plagued by flytipping of mattresses, discarded white goods, etc.
Over the years, councillors have asked for help from the public to clear the areas concerned, including in Parkeston.
So it is not correct to say the introduction of wheelie bins is the problem.
I agree that the new bins are inadequate for most families.
There are a lot of us who will be dumping extra black sacks down at the tip, myself included, which defeats the council’s view that there will be less landfill.
Also, if Tendring Council was to allow more things to be recycled, such as plastic supermarket packings, etc, as they used to, then perhaps we would have more room in our small wheelie bins for them to be used properly.
