A NURSERY has raised more than £1,000 for charity by staging its own mini Race For Life trek.

ABC Day Nursery, in Tiptree, had the goal of raising £100 for Cancer Research UK but has managed to raise 12 times more than its target and the figure is still climbing.

The total now stands at £1,200.

Nursery staff Chloe Dustan and Emerald Dunn organise an event every year for their chosen charity.

Chloe said: “Last year we chose Macmillan, which meant that we held our first ever coffee morning, which turned out to be a huge success and we managed to raise £242.

“This year, we chose Cancer Research UK as our charity.

“We had to think of something where all of the children could get involved so we decided to do our very own Race For Life.

“During the week, all of the children took it in turns to go for walks around the village to various places and they all loved being part of this.

“Our aim was to do 5k in five days but we have walked a lot further.

“We also thought it would be great if we could raise at least £100 for our chosen charity but so far we have raised over £1,200.

“It’s been quite surprising, really.

“We wouldn’t have been able to do this without all of the support that our parents, carers and friends have given us.

“We are overwhelmed with the response.

“All of the children have loved taking part and getting their very own Race For Life medal to cherish forever.

“To finish our week, we held a pink-themed cake sale at our nursery, which as you can imagine, went down a treat.

“It was a huge success all round and we are proud to have raised such an amazing amount of money for Cancer Research UK.”

The event took place over the last week of July and the nursery said it plans to do other fundraising events in the future.
