A DATE has been announced for the grand re-opening of a village hall following a £227,000 makeover.

Construction work on the new-look Goldhanger Village Hall is due to be completed this month.

The building has been extendedand facilities improved.

A celebration is now planned for Sunday, August 25 from 2pm to 5pm.

The improvement project, built by Aquanera Construction of Tiptree, is on its final stretch following two years of successful funding bids.

The new layout will include a spacious entrance and modern cloakroom facilities.

Work started in April this year and construction has progressed smoothly.

Village hall management committee member Jill Crooks has been marking the progress by taking weekly photos.

She said: “It is so exciting to see the extended building taking shape.

“We wanted a hall that is welcoming, accessible and inclusive to all and it is becoming just that.”

The opening ceremony will be a free open day with a tour and live entertainment.

Project manager Chris Joslin said: “The community of Goldhanger, our benefactors, our advisers and our contractor have been incredibly supportive throughout this project and everyone is invited to celebrate this exciting and important milestone in the history of Goldhanger and its village hall.”

The project has received funding boosts from organisations including Tesco, Maldon Salt Company, Goldhanger Parish Council, the Lottery and Essex County Council.
