MORE than 30 artists tackled plastic pollution through the medium of art.

The Beyond Plastic Exhibition at the Minories Galleries in Colchester was set up by lead artist Michele Webber who personally selected artists for the show.

Included in the exhibition is a sand sculpture, a whale called Jeff, a giant turtle the public can fill with their plastics for recycling and a stag beetle made from recycled plastic straws.

Visitors were able to walk around the exhibition at a preview evening.

Michele said: “It was a huge honour to guest curate this important exhibition at the beautiful Minories Galleries.

“Feedback has been incredibly positive and it is not only challenging the public to think more deeply about their own plastic use, but the artists involved are also thinking about their own practices going forwards. We are all connected internationally by this growing environmental problem. Our carefully recycled plastics can still end up in the sea and wash up on our East Anglian beaches.”

Sponsored by Spingold Design in Nayland, even the flyers and invitations for the event were printed with vegetable inks on recycled paper.

The exhibition continues every day until August 29.

Visiting times are 10am to 5pm, and until 4pm on Sundays.
