THE A12 is set to be shut overnight for four weeks while road resurfacing takes place - and drivers face a 20 mile diversion.

Highways England will shut eight miles of the road between junctions 29 at the Ardleigh Interchange and junction 32 at Capel St Mary in two phases in August and September.

It is expected to take around four weeks to complete the work with includes resurfacing, renewal of road markings and road studs.

The road will be shut overnight from Friday for ten nights.

It will then close again for nine nights from Tuesday, August 27.

All closures are from 9pm until 5am on weekdays.

Highways England has released an official diversion of 20 mile and taking drivers via Brantham.

When the road is closed the diversion will be via junction 29, the A133 and the A137 up to junction 56 at the A14.
