A ten-year-old girl cycled more than 100 miles with her mum and dad for charity.

Emma Degiorgio, from Heybridge Basin, rode in the Evans Cycles Essex RideIT event with parents James and Helen.

Sunday’s 102-mile ride was a round trip from the nuclear bunker in Kelvedon Hatch with almost 4,000ft of climbing.

Emma is no stranger to long-distance events and has already completed the 80-mile Saracens challenge and the Hatfield RideIT event over 87 miles.

Dad James said it takes a lot to tire her out.

He said: “Other participants on the event were shocked to see such a young lady taking on the ride, and the encouragement they gave Emma along the way was like rocket fuel to her.

“She has an amazing engine and shows such unbelievable determination.

“During Sunday’s ride she was tired at around 90 miles and I offered to have us picked up, but Emma firmly refused, saying she was not stopping until the end.

“Both of us are very proud of our superstar.

“She is so inspiring and shows that kids are capable of achieving anything they want.”

Emma is also a member of Maldon Rugby Club and Blackwater Triathlon Club.

She hopes to compete in the Tour de France when she grows up and later this month will ride from London to Paris with her dad.

Emma is raising money for blood cancer charity Bloodwise and has raised more than £400 so far.

She is hoping to hit her £1,000 target before she sets off to Paris.
