A LUCKY driver escaped a late-night car crash after he hit a bollard by not paying attention to the road.

Police were called shortly before 10.50pm on Monday, (July 29) with reports a Volvo S80 had struck a bollard in Burnham Road, Althorne.

Officers were assisted by Essex Fire and Rescue and freed the man.

The driver escaped with only a cut to his arm but was reported for careless driving.

A police spokesman said: “A very lucky driver of a serious road traffic collision.

“The driver was treated and taken to hospital with only minor injuries by East of England Ambulance.

“Please watch your speed and make sure you are aware of what is in front at all times.”

No other cars were involved in the incident.
