THESE vintage images of Colchester’s first railway station show how much it has changed in recent years.
Dating back to March 1843 when it was first opened by the Eastern Counties Railway and simply known as Colchester Station, this later changed to Colchester North with the opening of the Town Station.
ECR had planned to build a line from London to Norwich but cash was an issue and as a result they were forced to abandon any further line construction.
It was three years later when the onward link to Ipswich was eventually opened.
These photographs also show how the ad hoc approach to parking has moved on in recent years.
