TWO men have been charged in connection with an incident where a car failed to stop for police.

Police were called shortly after 11.45pm on Sunday with reports of a drink driver at Galleys Corner, Braintree.

Officers searched for the Vauxhall Vivaro van, which failed to stop.

A chase was authorised and the van drove into Old Road, Coggeshall, where the three occupants got out and ran off.

An officer was assaulted while detaining one of the men but was not injured. 

Three men were arrested.

Daniel Webster, 28, of Colchester Road, Coggeshall, has been charged with failing to stop for police, driving without insurance, driving while disqualified, failing to provide a specimen for analysis, assaulting an emergency worker, and failing to co-operate with a preliminary test.

Alexander De Souza, 36, of Mount Road, Coggeshall, has been charged with common assault of an emergency worker.

They are both due to appear at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on July 10.

A 42 year-old man arrested was later released without charge.
