Essex Wildlife Trust held a recycling day in Colchester town centre.
Its stall at Lion Walk shopping centre was collecting old banknotes, phones, stamps, jewellery, watches, cameras and laptops while raising awareness about the charity and its activities.
Claire Rodie, who organised the event, said: “It’s a good way of telling people what we do around the county.
“We are raising money for the trust and we’ve had a lot of people come in to drop off recycling.”
The one-off event was also a chance to exhibit the region’s rich ecological history.
Among the displays was a fossilised antler from a Eurasian elk that was found in Walton.
The stall also had a bra recycling scheme, which processes the used undergarments and sells them at reduced prices in countries where they are in short supply.
