A ROAD where works are taking place has collapsed due to a water leak.

The underground leak in Harwich Road has resulted in "substantial subsidence".

Essex Highways said Anglian Water responded to the situation as a matter of urgency and have managed to carry out extensive repairs to fix the initial leak, however further reinstatement work is still required.

This has resulted in the gas diversion works being temporarily delayed in this area.

The stretch of road was due to be closed until May 6 - two weeks later than planned, however due to the gas diversion works being put on hold for the emergency Anglian Water repairs a small further extension is expected.

Essex Highways said: "We appreciate this may cause frustration and would like to thank you for your patience and co-operation whilst we undertake these improvements."
