A BAND performed on Colchester Castle Park’s bandstand for the first time in front of an impressed audience.

The Colchester Pipes and Drums Band took to the open air stage and encouraged people to sing and dance as they played to backing music.

The band formed in 2010 and has played all over the world but this was its first performance at the Castle Park bandstand.

Pipe Major Paul Young said it was a great event and they want to make it more regular.

He said: “We practice at Copford Village Hall and are always looking for new members at any level.

“We have a few children in the band and they really enjoy it, we also have a registered Colchester tartan.

“This was our first year on the bandstand and we want to make it a more regular event.”

A large crowd turned out to watch and enjoy the music.

Mr Young said: “It was a bit cold but we really enjoyed it, I love performing in Colchester.

“We were quite surprised as quite a few people came out with their deckchairs and blankets.

“We are a friendly and family-orientated band.”

The band has a huge fan base in Italy and performs there every year.
