THE daughter of man savagely stabbed to death for his coin collection says her life has been shadowed by his death.

Toni Smith saw Gordon McGhee as a father as he had been in a long-term relationship with her mother Elaine who, even after their relationship broke down, continued to care for him until he was murdered by Danny Bostock.

In a victim impact statement on behalf of them both, Ms Smith described Mr McGhee as kind-hearted, gentle and thoughtful.

She said: “Without his support and guidance we are left with a big void in both our lives.”

Andrew Jackson, prosecuting, read the statement on behalf of Ms Smith who has been too devastated to come to court.

He said when she heard about his death she was paralysed by fear and became even more distressed when she heard he had been murdered.

Ms Smith was the intended recipient of the coin collection which was stolen and has never been recovered.

She said: “Everyday tasks and activities seem uninteresting.

“It is hard to keep living in the light when this horrible shadow lingers over us.

“He is missed by us so much and by all his friends.

“He was a keen fisherman and brought light to that community.

“We hope justice will be served.”
