COLCHESTER Rough Sleepers group has thanked those who have signed up to be volunteers on its homeless bus.

The group is in the process of putting the finishing touches to to Chariot 180 and members expect the vehicle to be fully operational within a fortnight.

Now road legal the old 77 seater coach has electricity and cooking facilities, and will be able to take eight rough sleepers off the streets once up and running.

They need a pool of about 30 people who are prepared to stay at times and help out on the bus.

Following an article in the Gazette, plenty of volunteers have come forward.

The group said on Facebook: "We have been absolutely blown away by the number of queries, offers of help and words of encouragement we’ve received.

"Thank you to everyone who has reached out so far - please keep it coming, we can’t wait to hear from you.

"Our small but dedicated team will aim to respond to all the Facebook messages and emails over the next few days, with more details."
